The mountain systems in Spain occupy almost half of its territory. These high caprices of nature are a great attraction for hikers and mountain enthusiasts.
In total there are 13 mountain systems and 94 mountains according to the National Statistics Institute. The Pyrenees and the Baetic Systems are the highest mountain ranges, they’re located outside the central plateau.
In the north of our country is the Cantabrian mountain range, the Iberian mountain system in the east, and Sierra Morena in the south. The insular land relief of the Canary Islands also highlights, due it forms a true mountain complex of volcanic origin that emerges from the ocean floor.
