There is no doubt that trekking is one of the best activities to enjoy contact with nature, discover the world and play sports. In addition, it has the motivation that it brings many benefits to our health.
Any excursionist must know the different routes and difficulty level to plan the appropriate route. Of course, as you progress in your fitness and experience, you will feel the need to make longer routes with a more challenging level of difficulty.
For those who are already feeling the need of “one more step”, in Walkaholic we have compiled some treks in Spain that you’ll love for sure.

La Senda de Camille, Aragón
The name of the route comes from the Camille Bear, the last native Pyrenean bear that lived in the Pyrenean mountain range and which, unfortunately is considered dead since 2010 as its traces has ceased to be found. Currently, in the Pyrenees live brown bears from Slovenia or descendants of specimens that have been reintroduced and mixed with native bears living at the time.
The circular route of La Senda de Camille is located in the Parque Natural de los Valles Occidentales, the Aragonese Pyrenees and in the National Park of the French Pyrenees. It has 7 stages, 7 shelters and is constituted of a total distance of 120 kilometers.
Stages of the tour:
Stage 1: This tour begins in Linza to Selva de Oso with a duration of approximately 6 hours and a distance of 15.3 km with a height difference of 800 meters.
Stage 2: From Selva de Oso to Gabardito it has a duration of 7.5 hours with a distance of 15.3 km and a height difference of 1300 meters.
Stage 3: This route starts from Gabardito, continuing the road for 4 hours to finish in Lizara. It has 9.6 km distance and an unevenness of 693 meters. To this stage you have to add 2 more hours if you climb up the Bisaurín, one of the highest peaks in the area.
Stage 4: This stage starts from the refuge of Lizara to Somport with a distance of 17.4 km and 7 hours of route.
Stage 5: It runs from Somport to Arlet, on this route we enter the French slope into beautiful dense forests. The two most beautiful points of this trail are the Aspe circus and the Espelunguera Valley. It has a distance of 18.9 km that runs in 6-7 hours.
Stage 6: We begin this stage from the Arlet Refuge to Lescun, the route duration is approximately 7.5 hours with a distance of 19.5 km, in which you will pass by the ports of Saoubathou and Lo Palo.
Stage 7: from Lescun to Linza with a distance of 16.6 km and a duration of 7h approximately. On this tour you’ll find the breathtaking views of the Circus of Lescun, with the “rocky moles” of Les Billaires, Mesa de los Tres Reyes and Petrechema.
To get rest and regain strength you have available: the Linza refuge, the Selva de Oza campsite, the Gabardito refuge, the Lizara refuge, the Aysa hostel, the Arlet refuge and the Lescun hostel or hotel.
Alta Ruta Guadarrama, Madrid
This route runs along the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park with a total of 127 kilometers away and with some 13,200 meters of accumulated unevenness.
The High Route of Guadarrama can be done following 6 stages at any time of the year, although we recommend to always be aware about the conditions of the mountain in each season and to use the proper and necessary trekking equipment.
The most common choice is to travel from La Rascafría – La Granja de San Ildefonso – Puerto de los Cotos – Miraflores – La Pedriza – Puerto de Navacerrada – Rascafría or vice versa.
Stages of the tour:
Stage 1. Rascafría – La Granja de San Ildefonso: It has a distance of 18 kilometers and an approximate duration of 5 hours. On this route you travel through the Puerto del Reventón at 2039m, it’s the place with the maximum altitude of this stage.
Stage 2. The Farm of San Ildefonso – Puerto de Cotos: It has a distance of 20 kilometers and its duration is 7 hours approximately. The maximum altitude will be reached at Peñalara Peak, which is 2428 meters high.
Stage 3. Puerto de Cotos – Miraflores: This stage is the most challenging one of this tour. Consists of 23 km and its duration is 8-10 hours approximately. You’ll overcome its highest point at La Cabeza de Hierro, which is greater than 2,380 meters high.
Stage 4. Miraflores – La Pedriza: It travels in approximately 7 hours and is 19 kilometers of route, in which you’ll enjoy melojo oak forests and the impressive Pedriza. You’ll be at the maximum height of this stage when you reach Collado de la Ventana (1,789 meters).
Stage 5. La Pedriza – Puerto Navacerrada: It is 20 km away with the highest point at Alto de Guarramillas (2,268 meters). This stage lasts approximately 6 hours.
Stage 6. Puerto Navacerrada – Rascafría: After touring La Loma del Noruego, you will pass by the Angostura Valley, then follow the course of the Lozoya River through the Paular Valley. With this stage you close your trekking tour after traveling the last 28 km in approximately 7-9 hours, passing the highest point at Alto de Guarramillas (2,268m).
La Alta Ruta de los Perdidos, Huesca
A route accompanied by beautiful valleys, glacial circuses and spectacular mountains that run between the great massifs of the Pyrenees: Monte Perdido and Vignemale.
This route is circular and consists of 6 stages with a total of 100 kilometers and approximately 6000 meters of land unevenness.
Stages of the tour:
Stage 1. Bujaruelo – Góriz: It has approximately 17 km where you’ll enjoy waterfalls and areas of the Ordesa forest. This stage takes about 8 hours approximately.
Stage 2. Góriz – Pineta: This path can be traveled in approximately 7h having a distance of 13 km, it will depend on whether you want to do the ascent to Monte Perdido where you will have to climb up to 3355 meters high.
Stage 3. Pineta – Espuguettes: With a route of about 16.5 km approx. You will enjoy the beautiful Marboré Lake and then descent towards Horquette d’Alans until you reach the Espuguettes Refuge.
Stage 4. Espuguettes – Grange de Holle: This is a short route of 10 km and is the stage with the greatest descent. Here you will meet the grand Gavarnie Circus.
Stage 5. Grange de Holle – Oulletes: The trail begins in the Valle d’Ossoue forest until you reach the Bayssellance Refuge, where you can choose to climb an additional ascent to the spectacular Vignemale. Following the course you will find imposing landscapes such as the glacier and D’Ossoue valley.
Stage 6. Oulletes – Bujaruelo: 10 km of gentle descent until you reach the Bujaruelo Refuge where you can celebrate that you have overcome this impressive Pyrenean route.
